1WEEK1CAPS: A new way to start the semester

Blue Valley CAPS will be trying something new as we kickoff the Fall semester. 300+ students led by 13+ instructors will be joining forces for 1WEEKCAPS, a giant collaborative client project. The week starts with a “know yourself, deploy yourself” activity for students. Partnering with the Indigo Project, each student will take the Indigo Inventory, a quick assessment based on 4 different sciences, that gives them their strengths, motivators, behaviors style, and skills. As a result, they get their unique attributes, and the CAPS gets to see a high level of who they are as a group. Next will be the deep dive into the client projects. Students will partner with Community for Kids, a local nonprofit which works to provide weekend food packs to students who are food insecure.

Students will have the opportunity to meet with their client and based on what they learn, they will develop a problem statement. This will be followed by prototype development and finally pitches to the clients. The week will close with a debrief and a celebration.

The goal of the week is to introduce professional skills and client-based work to CAPS students at the start of the semester. This introduction, paired with the intentional focus on t self-discovery will create the foundation for the upcoming semester.
