A pathway to a career

2017 CAPS grad Luke Dillavou spent his summer in the business apprenticeship program at Cerner. His was a full-time, paid position doing graphic design and managing social media. What’s amazing about this position is Luke will be able to keep his position throughout college working 20 hours a week while he’s in school, and 40 hours a week in the summers. Luke’s end goal is to secure a full-time position at Cerner when he graduates fro UMKC.

“I attribute landing this position to the incredible CAPS experience I had my senior year. My interviewer, now boss, was impressed with all the experience I had on my resume. I wouldn’t have had those experiences without CAPS,” said Luke. “Ms. Graham and Mr. Brown taught me so much that I now get to use everyday in the corporate world. I couldn’t have done it without CAPS. ”

Luke’s persistence paid off. He had originally applied for a position as a Cerner scholar while a student at CAPS. He was not selected for that program, but a reach out because she had seen my resume in their system and asked if I wanted to interview for a different position. Luke will be attending UMKC which will allow him to stay with Cerner.
