CAPS receives STEM Excellence Award

Blue Valley’s Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) was awarded the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) School of Excellence Award at the international STEM Expo in Branson, Mo. on Oct. 10, 2017. CAPS was one of three recipients of this award—and, the only school in Kansas. The STEM School of Excellence Awards program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools whose faculty and administration have implemented a comprehensive integrated STEM education program at very high levels or have made significant progress or significant strides in achievement through the implementation of comprehensive, long-term integrated STEM education programs.

“ISEA has been at the forefront of STEM education, serving as a clearing house for innovative and creative ideas,” said Corey Mohn, Blue Valley CAPS Executive Director. “We exemplify that at CAPS by fully immersing students in a professional culture, solving real-world problems, using industry standard tools.”

CAPS is a nationally recognized, innovative high school STEM program. CAPS provides students with the opportunity to explore professional fields through profession-based inquiry, learning and problem solving all while receiving high school and college credit. Faculty at CAPS work directly with business professionals to develop coursework and real-world problems for student engagement. Subsequently, the curriculum is dynamic and evolves to mirror industry trends and market changes.
