Metal Mustangs Robotics at TEDxKC Women

Female members of CAPS Metal Mustang Robotics, FRC 2410, had the opportunity to exhibit at the recent TEDxKC Women’s event held in partnership with the Kauffman Foundation. TEDxKC Women highlighted influential women leading local and international organizations working to solve important community issues. As the youngest exhibitors and the only robotics team invited to the event, the Metal Mustangs represented CAPS and FIRST Robotics in promoting young women in STEM. Team members met with inspirational speakers from the KC area as well as networked with industry leaders.

The team simultaneously created a spark in 2nd through 5th graders during their STEM camp hosted at the CAPS facility. They led kids through design challenges like egg crash testing and constructing towers. Over 30 children attended the camp and were able to develop skills like problem solving and team working in order to complete challenges.

By working in two parts, the team was able to cover the STEM camp and TEDxKC Women at the same time. Through both events, members of 2410 developed the community through inspiring children and developed their professional networks and industry knowledge. Experiences like these solidified members’ passion in their future career paths.
