CAPS Engineering Camps

Enter a world of imagination, innovation and learning by experiencing the rigors of engineering and mathematics. Students will be able to work in groups and independently on high energy and exciting engineering projects. This program is open to incoming 6th – 9th grade students. NOTE: THIS IS THE ONLY CAMP AVAILABLE THROUGH BLUE VALLEY PARENT VUE.

Content for the camps will vary so you may sign up for more than one session. The cost is $95 per session.

CAPS App Camp

Participate in a summer mobile app development camp where you will experience computer science, engineering and software development through the creation of mobile applications. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.

  • Students work in pairs and as individuals to learn the basics of app development
  • They will have the opportunity to make their own application from scratch
  • This is an entry level camp and no prior programming experience is necessary
  • Laptops and mobile devices will be provided for daily use

These 4-day camps are for students who will be in 7th, 8th or 9th grades during the 2017-18 school year. The camps are identical so DO NOT sign-up for multiple sessions.

Camp dates: Session 1 – June 5 – 8, Session  – June 12 – 15. The camps are from 8:30 – 3:00. Campers must bring a lunch. The cost is $185 and proceeds go to support the Team 2410 FRC Robotics program.

Girls Going Places Engineering Camp

Monday 6/26 – Thursday 6/29, 9 AM – 3 PM

FIRST Robotics team 2410, The Metal Mustangs, is excited to announce “Girls Going Places,” the first annual Girls Engineering Camp to be hosted at the Blue Valley School District CAPS facility. Each day focuses on two different types of engineering (from electrical to biological to aeronautical) and corresponding activities. Campers will also have the opportunity to work throughout the week on an open-ended Capstone project, which will challenge girls to create solutions to real problems in our community. The camp will end with a presentation of the final project. All proceeds go to supporting the three Blue Valley robotics teams.

Additional Information:

  • For students entering grades 6-8
  • Students will bring a sack lunch
  • Closed-toe shoes, hair tied back, no loose jewelry
  • Drop-off and pick-up must be no earlier/later than 15 minutes of scheduled camp time
  • Paid registrations are non-refundable

Students will learn about engineering through hands-on activities designed to make them think creatively and use problem solving skills. Campers will also experience the KU campus during a field trip to the School of Engineering labs and classrooms. Because this is a day camp, families must pick up and drop off their camper at the beginning and ending of each day. Campers are asked to bring a sack lunch with them each day. NOTE: CONTACT KU WITH REGISTRATION QUESTIONS.

Rotary Youth Leadership Camp (RYLA)

RYLA is designed for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors who are ready to explore and develop their leadership potential. Participants visit with local Rotarians, do a self-assessment of their leadership, spend time at the Dole Institute of Politics, volunteer at local non-profits in Lawrence, KS and work in small groups on thought provoking and challenging projects. The camp is residential and is held at the University of Kansas from June 4-8, 2017. Cost per student is $325 ($300 registration fee paid by the sponsoring club and $25 application fee paid by the student). Leadership Unlocked

July 16-18 at Rock Springs 4-H Center.

That’s right, we’ll help you unlock your leadership potential as you learn awesome leadership skills and techniques. You and all participants will look for “clues” to unlock the leadership within while learning in workshops and doing fun recreational activities at the Rock Springs 4-H Center south of Junction City, Kansas. You’ll leave with the keys that revel anyone, especially you, can lead, anytime, anywhere. Hurry to register – there are only 200 spots available for qualified teens!
