medical simulation lab

students “practice on plastic” honing their skills, refining advanced techniques and learning valuable social interactive tools for delivering important news to patients.

The Medical Simulation Lab, housed on the second floor of the CAPS building, is where “Stan Manikin” lives. Stan is a high fidelity human patient simulator. Upon entering the sim lab, students become healthcare providers on 2 North at CAPS Medical Center. They work in teams of healthcare professionals as they develop skills in inter-professional collaboration. As the students “try on” varied roles from week to week, they interact with our computerized patient to diagnose and treat his endless saga of medical issues. This wonderful technology allows our young future healthcare providers to put their knowledge and skills into practice in a safe, non-threatening, and nurturing environment. The simulation lab is used by all CAPS Medicine & Healthcare Strand classes.
