CAPS graduate Abby Mitchell spent the summer as an intern in the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS). First established by the 2008 Farm Bill, the OCS is staffed with senior advisors and agency scientists working with USDA’s Chief Scientist and Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics (REE). Abby was first introduced to careers in food science as a junior in the Future of Food course. During the course of the semester she started to work on a project to present at the Kansas Youth Institute. From there, she was selected to represent the state at the World Food Prize annual conference. Now Abby is a junior at Kansas State University and is a student at the Food Science Institute.
